Day 4 -  Rome 12 May 2015.

Day excision to amalfi Coast and Pompei.

We gathered at 7am at a wonderful square and got into a bus,  3 hours later we were driving along the amalfi Coast. This is by far the most beautiful, most breathtaking views I have seen and experienced in my entire life. The only thing I can compare it with would be a mix of Chapman peak and Clifton Bay. Except its better. Imagine beautiful warm weather, no clouds, clear blue sparkly water that touches steap green cliffs... Then imagine it with beautiful Italian houses. This is Sorrento! Just a bit further down the coast we reached something that I thought could not be possible, a town even more beautiful. The town of Positano. This town has one narrow street going up and one narrow street going down. The tour bus left us there for a hour or so to explore and have a lunch. It turns out it was the best pasta I have had so far in Italy. Eating pasta with a view of the spectacular beach and grapes growing lusciously creating shade, this was a fairy tale moment. Walking back to the bus the roads are filled with overpriced everything. From linen to seramic to lemon chelo. Lemon chelo is a drink the locals make from lemon rind, water, sugar and alcohol. Think I will make some when I get back home.

We then went to see Pompei, the ancient city that was left in ruins by the ferocious hand of Mount Vesuvius. I was left in awe by the lifestyles and lush these ancient Romans lived in. Okay so they weren't the best people morally, but the technology, art, advanced beyond their times. They had the first fast food joints. Very impressive. You can still see the wooden ovens they used to bake bread in, the terracotta earns they filled with lentils and fish soup. Then there is the chariots they used, the traffic regulations they had inside the city... Speed bumps, amphitheatres build 150 years before the Colosseum. You can just imagine the true wonder of this city when you stand on the massive streets and see what they have accomplished. Then there is the matter of the brothels... They encouraged sailors and men to have the pleasure of the company of a "she wolf" or loopa as they call prostitutes. This discouraged other woman in the city from being raped. Annually they would have a festival were virgins of the city would give thanks to the goddess of Venus for not being raped. The brothels have a sort of "menu"  painted on the walls of positions one might like and presumably chose from. The guests to the brothels would right reviews on the walls like "Maria is good,  she gives discount".  According to most reviews Maria was the best loopa in town while Sarah who obviously could not read, did not remove bad reviews from her wall, like "not who she says she is"  and not very good. They have penises in the main street that indicate the direction to the brothels and a large penis would hang from the door of the loopa's house or brothel. It's quite funny to see but they were obviously a very liberal nation.

There are so many pictures I would like to upload but I will choose only the absolute best.

Enjoy them.
