Day 2 - Rome 10 May 2015

Day 2... We started out by walking to the Colosseum which is about 1.7km from our apartment. The place is absolutely astonishing, those Romans sure we're super inventive and pioneers in just about everything. The we're also very snobby and sexist. They let the people sit according to rank and social class. Woman and slaves were obviously classified as the lowest and had the worst seat in the house. A wooden bench at the very top with extremely steep steps. The Colosseum is such a tourist thing to do, but it's the best thing I have done so far. So amazing. We then went to old Rome where we saw the Roman forum and a bunch of ruins. You can sit there and just imagine what a elegant and beautiful it this once was. You can still see some of the marble in the roads that have not yet been scavenged. I have to say, these cobble stones are so bad on the feet.

After having Okish gnocchi for lunch we went back to the apartment for a while. We decided to go for a stroll at about 17h00 and went to the Spanish steps. More like the don't waste your time steps. It's just a bunch of people standing around in a nice square with these mediocre steps going up. At least it had a cool fountain which made it worth the trip. The subway experience going to the steps had me infuriated. These Italian locals have no manners. I went to to 3 different people who I asked for direction as to get on the bus, and they don't even look or acknowledge you as a human being. Hallo, can anybody see me? Luckily if you flip them off in Afrikaans they don't understand. So those who know me will remember that I am super claustrophobic , but mostly in heards of people, I don't mind confined spaces as much as I do when I am in a heard of people. The subway made me almost lose my marbles. I was clinging to my backpack like a crack addict to its....  I don't know, what do crack addicts cling to? Anyway I'm okay now Hehe. So after the stupid, I mean Spanish steps, we went to see the Trevi fountain which is this massive beautiful fountain and it has a legend that if you throw a coin into its fountain you are sure to return to Rome. So obviously it has closed for renovations when we got there, which ruined the whole experience, but I did get to see the magnificent size of its statues and carvings. It's truly magical. Truly build by and for art lovers.

It only gets dark after 20h00 here so we had dinner, a delicious pasta each, and headed back to the subway for another repeat episode of "personal space, no thank you, let me stand on your head".

Total Km walked today?  15 km. Sore feet. Riaan massaged my excuses for feet a bit which was a first.

More pics for you to view.  Hope you enjoy!
