10 days left and well, time sure flies even if you’re not having fun.
With our last holiday 3 year in die rearview mirror, this is a much anticipated and much welcomed adventure cannot come quick enough.

Riaan read somewhere that when you experience the same thing many times, time seems to go by quicker than when you experience new things and make new memories. Although I come to work every day and basically experience little to no new things, days seem to sometimes take a life time. Its 10h00, its 11h00, its 13h00 - yay lunch! Get up, get dressed, go to gym (if I’m feeling it, which lately I soooo haven’t), go to work, go home, eat, bath, sleep. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat to infinity. Egh!
I have to admit, the planning, preparing, booking and searching of all the aspects of this trip has been the only thing keeping me sane lately. (Well, and Vodka, but that’s a different blog post.) Planning a trip like this one, on your own, from the accommodation to air tickets to attractions and cute food places, proved to be very time consuming, but saves you so much money that can be spend on that extra excursion or a visit to a la-di-da restaurant.
So what do we expect from our trip? Well, I really expect the magic. I expect to put pasta in my mouth and think to myself, this is that it must feel like to experience heaven and just close my eyes and live in that moment like a chocolate commercial. I expect to be dazzled by the lights and to be in awe by the beauty of these majestic cities. To be amazed by the history, the culture, the food. I expect it all. I am also a realist… so I also expect to be bumped by mean fellow tourists or local. To be poked in the face with a selfie stick. I expect long queues and feeling sweaty and tired. I expect to get lost, and to have a local hate my face for speaking English. I expect European weather and to look like an idiot tourist with my plastic poncho. This is all part of the magic of this trip, and I can’t wait to make the memories.
All and all I think we are pretty prepared, although I think you can always be MORE prepared. My friend Sara-Lee would disagree, she calls me her “over planning Friend”. But that’s me in a nutshell. I have spreadsheets for my whole life. This trip has several sheets. They keep me sane.
Excitement? Oh to the extent that I dream of it when I’m awake or asleep (which rarely happens because of my insomnia) I think its only now starting to sink in that today 11 days from now, I will be in ROME! In Rome! I am going to ROME! And also Barcelona and Paris! PARIS! Excited? OH YES!
