It's day 1 of our adventure. We landed in Paris at about 6 am, but out flight from JHB was delayed with half an hour. That left us with an hour to go get a boarding pass, go through customs an police, take a shuttle and walk your legs to stumps before we boarded at 7am to Rome. We were late. The gates have already closed. Luckily we were a odd group of about 7 who missed the cut off time and they had to reopen the gates for us. Boarding the plane you could see the passengers staring at you with hatred that could fuel the fires in hell. Once on the plane we were informed that the engen's starter broke and had to be fixed. We were delayed again with about an hour. Landed safely in Rome at about 10h00. Absolute relief!
We headed to the stain station, bought a expensive R200 train ticket to Roma Terminal (about 20min away) and we saw the weirdest couple on that train. I presume them to be American. The guy was clearly her lap dog and he performed every tick she command. He was a real tool but it made for 20min of entertainment and me and Riaan could say things in Afrikaans almost to his face. Funny. After the train stopped we walked to our Room. It's about 1.5km away. We found it quite easily and took a quick shower and nap.
Woke up feeling refreshed and hungry we decided to go for a pizza. We read about this place on TripAdvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g187791-d3222955-r266901887-Sapori_e_Delizie-Rome_Lazio.html). The guy that runs the place was a real treat, he was funny. The pizza is exactly the way I love a good pizza - beautiful thin wooden oven bakes crust with just a few toppings made with love and cheese. We decided it's such a nice day still that we would just stroll around, we ended up at the Colosseum and old Rome. What a beautiful site. We took some pics but we are returning tomorrow with our entrance tickets so we didn't really want to ruin the experience for ourselves. Walking through the parks you can find old ruins behind fences. So beautiful and big. In Italy you will find that all apparent windowsills have colourful flower boxes. It's a magical feeling walking in these streets.
Anyway, that's it for now, enjoy our pics for the day.
